The Medical College Organisation is made up of provincia medical colleges and the General Council; these are public law corporations, protected by the General Law on Professiona Colleges, which have democratically constituted structures, c representative nature and their own legal personality. They are independent from the state administration and do not form ar integral part of it, irrespective of the public law relations which correspond to them by law.It holds the exclusive representation of the medical profession and within the field of its competence it organises the professiona activities of the registered members and defends their professiona interests.The Organisation consequently groups together all doctors who according to current laws, exercise their profession in any of it' areas, whether independently or in the service of the State Administration of any other public or private institutions.Persons who hold a professional medical title and do not exercise the profession can voluntarily apply for membership.The Medical College Organisation is related to the Administrator via the Ministry of Health and Consumption.

The Medical College Organisation has the following objectives

• within the field of its competence, to organise the exercise o the medical profession; its exclusive representation and the defence of its members' professional interests;

to safeguard and observe deontological and ethical-socia principles of the medical profession and its dignity and prestige and for this purpose it will compile the respective codes anc enforce them;

• to promote, by all means in its reach, the constant improvemen of the scientific, cultural, economic and social standards of it' members, to which end it may organise and run all kinds o cultural institutions and social protection and welfare systems;

• to collaborate with the public powers in achieving the right t( health protection for all Spaniards and the most efficient, fai and equitable control of healthcare and the exercise o medicine.
